The first Joyful Mystery is the Annunciation.

Mary was only a young girl, without riches or influence, when the Angel Gabriel appeared to her and asked her to carry the Savior into the world.

She could have been stoned to death. At the very least, she was risking rejection by her betrothed and by everyone else around her for conceiving a child outside of marriage.

She asks "How?" but she doesn't ask "Why?" I think this is an important distinction, because she seeks to understand the will of God, but she does not seek to question it - she is curious but not doubtful.

Her yes seems so simple, but it is so brave, so selfless, and so faithful.

She risks everything she has to trust God, and afterwards, she rejoices in how wonderful God has been to her.

In the same way, priests say yes to God and relinquish all else in the world.

May Mary guide you as you imitate her in your love of her Son.

Amen.

I'm praying for you!

:)
