Speaking of Benedictine monks, St. Benedict himself was pretty smart:

"Whenever you begin a good work pray to God most earnestly to bring it to perfection." - Prologue of the Rule of St. Benedict

This quote is in my St. Meinrad prayer book, but it's unattributed, probably because lots of people have said it:

Place your hope in God alone.
